Amazing to me what people are willing to pay for old beaters.

Every time this happens, sellers on Craigslist become that much more confident in their knowledge of what they have.

I believe that car is holy grail type stuff for Aussie muscle car fans.

Makes this Bantam seem like an absolute bargain.

It’s a cool car, and very rare, but still CP. I hope this “barn find” fetish has just about reached its peak.

Too much money flowing uphill these days, I imagine we’re going to be seeing such silliness for a long time.

Yikes that is nuts. As is the Falcon IMO, but there seems to be a lot of dumb money chasing this stuff these days...

If I remember right,
this is the car the interceptor
from Mad Max is based on.
200k for a barn find is still
steep,
though
.

Fetish is right - the meticulous preservation of the dirt and dust as found, not a single scuff or finger print from moving it around. In the old days when they did car shows and live auctions, people used to tuck straw into the panel gaps and pile scrap wood pieces on the roof to make it look extra barn fresh.

200k is a bit much for a barn find. Also, I seem to have started a trend of posting about overpriced cars.

Cars like these, although wonderful to behold, just can’t compare to the performance of a modern car. This Falcon made 330hp and had a 0-60 time of 7.6 seconds when it was new. If your goal is to cruise around and look cool in an old muscle car while converting copious amounts of fuel to exhaust, then this car will fit the bill. If you want to go fast and have better handling, you can do that in a Camry.
All that said, I’d love to have a late-’60s Mustang.

Sam e can be said for just about every muscle car. Driving one has nothing to do with performance as compared to new cars. My station wagon does 0-60 in 6.4 seconds. My El Camino also goes zero to 60. I have no idea in what time frame because that isn’t where the joy in driving it is derived.

“ Driving one has nothing to do with performance as compared to new cars.”
Not according to some of my family and friends. They love to wax nostalgic about the performance of the old cars. It’s not unusual to hear someone say something about an old muscle car being able to “blow the doors off” a new car. I really enjoy disabusing them of those notions by taking them for a ride in my WRX. I’m also quick to point out that my car is zippy by modern standards, but certainly not the best performing car out there.

Let’s see when the Dow hits 9000 after earnings come in, eh?

Yeah, but it’s rare. And it has the 351 Cleveland engine... that was locally made in Australia.
And specifically, I think it was similar to the early “M-code” 351 Cleveland
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_335_engine#M-code
So it’s quite a rare car and as long as there is no rust, the price isn’t too bad.

Did you look at the lead photo? I see rust on the hood, the front quarter, the door, the rear quarter...

I meant no significant rust underneath.
An unrestored Ford from that era will have some rust.

I like to point to the 0-60 of the goddamn V6 Toyota Camry to set people straight.

Depends. If they can fix it up and make a profit, then it’s not.
Remember when Hemi Cudas were going for 1 MILLION dollars?

Especially with how good current cars are getting, I find myself progressively less interested in classics.
